copycat dresses from China
Does anyone have experience ordering bridal dresses from China? I understand it will be similar but not exact to the original.

haha that is so funny that you would post this cause i JUST got done searching some sites about this.... my friend gave me the "bridal bargains" book and it talks about doing that. there are forums on their website of people you can talk to that know of good reliable sites and what not.
i havent tried it yet, but the book says to go to bridalbargainsbook.com, click on "message boards", then "weddings" and then finally the cyberbride forum... the thread is called ebay china gowns.
the book also gives examples of sites, some of which i just checked out like 2 seconds ago... haha...
if you search ebay id's china-ekt, blue-catalog, antzinternational, and jeffliu8000... those are all ebay online stores set up by Chinese shops that the book recommends. i havent checked to see if they're still operating yet... but what i did do was check the sites:
bluecatalog.com (same as blue-catalog on ebay, but its their SITE) 1koo.com (same as china-ekt on ebay) and juliusbridal.com
I don't remember the exact person, but I ordered my dresses for my bridesmaids off of ebay only because I am a bold person and take chances. They were beautiful the only thing is the sizes weren't US sizes so I had to get way big sizes in order for them to fit the girls but other than that I had fun and they were all different colors because I had a Cinderella Themed Wedding and all my bridemaids dresses were ballgown style and different pastel colors.
I have a designer that works for me, she is in China, running a fashion warehouse. You need to be careful with ordering overseas, mainly be careful of dealing directly and not through another business owner because of shipping fees and currency rate differences.
If you decide to do this, just be careful and make sure you have a paper trail. Also, be aware that to order like this you need to do so at least 6 months out, so you can fix any problems or things you might not like about the gown.
I went on ebay and seen several places over in china that makes dresses. I actually emailed several ones just like you I'm sketical. but if you do decide on ordering find the ones who have the return policy etc. Everyone will have different experiences due to there's so many places over their that makes dresses. look on ebay put in bridal and different china stores come up, I looked at the feedback and the remarks. I was shocked at a lot of the prices also as brides we try to cut cost. good luck. Oh I also stumbled up on this website that make dresses that actually have pictures of there work. gioavonnisbridalboutique.net.........good luck!
BE CAREFUL You must think about this - you will run into shipping charges, currency exchange rates - most places will want you to wire money and that will cost. I purchased some trim from China and it ended up costing me about double by the time I was finished. Not to mention what will you do if there is a problem? At least if you have a real location in the good old USA you can park yourself at the front door. It's just my opinion but isn't planning a wedding stressful enough?
I was thinking of this too, because my budget is small. However, I ran across this site where they show the listing they purchased (Which I have actually seen myself on ebay) then they show you what they got. It truly scared me.
However, a couple of the other posters had good experiences so I may look into the links they provided, but in general after this article I personally will not risk it. Please read it before making your decision as its a huge decision and can make or break your happiness on your day. Good Luck!
Be very careful about ordering dresses from China. I happen to be into a style of fashion from Japan and a lot of Chinese stores take original pictures from the Japanese websites and pass them off as their own and you don't find out about the quality of the dress until it arrives. I suspect this may go on with wedding dresses as well. If you wish to take the chance stay in constant communication with them. Make sure they will make the dress in accordance to your measurements (and find out if they measures in inches or via the metric system). And be exact with your measurements too, don't skim the numbers in the expectation of losing weight. Also ask for fabric swatches of everything from the material of the dress to the lace that may adorn it. Question when how long it will take to make and when it will be delivered. Also a lot of shop in China are closed this time of year, so be mindful of their customs and holidays too. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
While I'm sure the price tag is a plus, You should know that I have had to do some major alterations on some of those gowns as the measurements are usually off and when the gown arrives it rarely fits! They're not made very well, and the fabric and details really look cheap in person. Alterations on Wedding gowns average $200.-500. in New England so know that you might have to add that to your budget.
Hi, I just ordered a dress from china, the website was Ioffer.com. My dress will not be back until the end of the month, I took chance, the dress I wanted was not going to be back in enough of time. I took the chance, I will loose $179.00 versus a dress that will cost me $2500.00, if it is not like the picture, I will settle off the rack, I just wanted this dress so bad and I am so a procrastinator, it will be only my fault if it come back cheesy or so wrong. I will keep you posted
By the way, all wedding dress are made in china, the majority of all top designers are made in china, ask any wedding store, why do you think it tak so long to order, they make the dresses one by one.
